Lydia Denton

As a designer, I predominantly focus on practising environmentally friendly methods of production. After completing my placement year, I was introduced to the idea of handcraft, where natural materials are used, alongside a human approach to manufacture, to create sustainable, environmentally friendly designs. Since learning of such techniques, I became fascinated with traditional methods of manufacture. With a hope to use these ideas to create home ware items, I plan to develop these skills further to progress as a designer and enter into a successful career in design.

Decora is an environmentally friendly alternative to the standard ceiling light. Inspired by the recycled wine bottle and focusing on the life cycle of a product, each component can be recycled again when no longer needed as a light. With good intentions in mind, the hope is that this lighting piece will encourage recycling in the home.

Vanité is a contemporary dressing table designed to simplify the female beauty routine. The dressing table lid lifts up to reveal a mirror, jewellery storage, plug sockets and a heat proof mat. Housed beneath is a large drawer for cosmetic items with an open storage system beside for items which are frequently not put away. The design aims to provide a user friendly experience and add an element of organisation.
