BA Furniture & Product Design

I think design should be bold, and I aim to push the boundaries. During the initial phase of my design process, I like to let my imagination run free and design without any limitations, as a strong initial idea is the core to a great design.

Spectrum

Spectrum' is a dynamic statement console table designed to sit proud in a grand entryway. Inspired by agamograph art, watch how the piece surprises you and transforms into a different colour as you walk around it. Not only does the piece create a visual statement, but it also provides an experience.

Inspired by my love for magic and illusions, I explored how I could create a piece of furniture that creates an element of surprise, similar to how a magician receives an audience reaction from a magic trick. Agamographs are an optical illusion art form consisting of an image that changes depending on the angle of the viewer. This was my main inspiration behind this piece. The glass top also compliments the legs and allows them to take dominance in the design.

Ray

'Ray' is a desk divider designed for use in hybrid offices. Offices need to provide a comfortable and inviting space to work to encourage employees back to these spaces after the Covid-19 pandemic.

With inspiration taken from the hospitality sector, the reeded acrylic provides a window of privacy whilst ensuring the desk space feels open and still allowing employees to feel connected to one another.

A conveniently placed button on the side enables users to switch on the lighting and switch it in between a cool and warm temperature to almost simulate sitting by the window. It also allows for employees to have customisation over their desk space.

Hidden clamps underneath the base of the divider, or the 'windowsill', allow for the product to be securely and discretely clamped onto the end of the desk.
