BA Product Design
Through bringing realistic, innovative, practical solutions to problems, I am keen to create unique designs that are well considered and have purpose. As a member of the RAF reserve (UAS), I am a clear thinker and am good at working through challenges - skills I have found invaluable as a designer.
Pioneer
At the start of the 20th century King C Gillette invented the first safety razor. The design revolutionised the industry and has developed into the disposable and cartridge razors that most consumers use today. Almost unrecognisable from the original design, the razors of today are expensive, prone to causing skin irritation and bad for the environment. Whilst there are brands that claim to solve some of these identified problems, not one solves all three. The Pioneer razor changes all of this. Taking inspiration from the traditional safety razor, the Pioneer brings wet shaving into the 21st century, with an easy push button blade replacement system and pivoting head to ensure the blade remains in contact with the skin as it passes over the face's natural contours. The Pioneer packs all the benefits of a modern Cartridge razor but with features that make it stand out above the competition. Environmentally kind with fully recyclable blades, cheap with no need to buy expensive cartridge refills and better for the skin with all the benefits of single edge shaving, including reduced skin irritation, shaving burn and ingrown hairs - The Pioneer is the ultimate razor for the modern man.
Everlight
Retro-themed products have made a resurgence in recent years. Featuring bold shapes, these often simple and vibrant fun designs have remained current over the years, with the flowerpot lamp and PH5 Designed by Verner Panton remaining some of the trendiest pieces of lighting design in the current day. The Everlight aims to combine these 1960's curves and lines but with a modern twist, making this the ideal lamp for a variety of modern homes. The unique bulb position facilitates the floating shade effect, whilst also directing the light up into the shade, illuminating it and providing a unique warm glowing effect. Within this project, attention to detail was key and heavily focused on the refinement of the form. Through endless iteration, playing around with a combination of different shapes and trying to find balance and proportion, I believe the design functional but also embodies the influences from which I was inspired.
