BSc Product Design
I am an inquisitive, conscious designer with a particular interest in environmental sustainability in design. I aim to create products that are bold, unique, and incorporate the circular design aspects that are important to me. I want to ensure the products I design have a positive impact on the environment.
The "plastic crisis" refers to the environmental impact and health problems caused by the increasing production and use of plastic products, with safe disposal becoming a major global concern. To address this issue, plastic repurposing has emerged as a promising solution. Plastic is a versatile material that is regularly used in single-use consumer products due to its low cost. This has caused a serious accumulation of single-use plastic bottles in the ecosystems of the world. While legislation around plastic bottles is a step in the right direction, recycling alone is not enough. Even with increased recycling efforts, a significant amount of plastic bottles still ends up in landfills.
PolyFusion aims to keep plastic bottles out of landfills through outdoor benches with a focus on repairability and longevity while incorporating various circular design aspects such as repairable and replaceable standardised parts. This is also combined with efforts to further change legislation to make large companies take responsibility for their plastic waste and help shift society towards a more sustainable and circular future by reducing our reliance on plastic and using it more sustainably.
