BA Product Design
As a designer, I aspire to create functional products that enhance the lives of the user. My projects often center on simple, wooden aesthetics, with pops of colour throughout. Refinement and reflection are an important part in my work, with a focus on gaining a deeper understanding of the market.
With many children born during the Covid-19 pandemic and then spending their formative years at home due to lockdown, children haven't had the opportunity to interact with other children as they typically would. Therefore, many children starting nursery suffer from language delays, anxiety and lack of communication skills such as sharing.
The HIVE 5 provides five personal sized peg boards for children to work on; both independently if they feel overwhelmed or as a group. A variety of prompt cards are provided to offer guidance on what to design using the coloured foam shapes. With different packs of prompt cards being available, the universal boards can be used by children of a variety of ages, building upon a range of skills.
Children can build their designs, compare different pictures with their peers and work together to produce group pictures. The aim of the HIVE 5 is to provide conversation starters in a calming environment, allowing children to build confidence in their voice and opinions.
Recycle Me Walkers Display
With many consumers not being aware that crisp packets can be recycled in the UK, the Recycle Me Store Display is designed to encourage others to recycle their crisp packets in an engaging manner. The #CRISPIN or #CRISPOUT campaign allows customers to vote on their preference using their recycled crisp packets, adding an element of fun into the process of recycling.
Further to promoting recycling, the display unit is made entirely of cardboard with no glue needed, only the use of slots and tabs, ensuring that the display unit can also be recycled once it reaches the end of its life.
For company's known for their interactions with their customer base, the Recycle Me display builds upon that consumer feedback and interaction. Circular imagery and bold, bright colours reflect the Walkers brand and work to capture the attention of customers in busy locations and a competitive market.
