BSc Product Design
At my core, I am a designer who excels at problem solving. My favourite aspect of design is the initial ideation stage, generating numerous ideas, from the practical to the far-fetched. Through this brainstorming process, I eventually refine and focus my ideas into a well-thought-out and meticulously-detailed concept.
No Trace
Music festivals have long faced criticism for their negative environmental impact, particularly the abandonment of camping equipment. Specifically designed with reparability, functionality and reusability as core values, the 'No Trace' chair caters to the needs of festivalgoers and rental services alike. Its compact and stackable design makes it easy to transport, while its innovative rear component can be converted into a backrest or table, providing a greater incentive for the user. Every component of the chair is interchangeable, recyclable and easy to clean, ensuring it is a sustainable option that can be used time and time again. No Trace aims to foster a culture of responsibility among festivalgoers, encouraging them to see camping equiptment as a valuable resource to be shared and cared for, therefore reducing the volume of abandoned equipment and combatting the one-use culture that is so prominent in today's society.
Slot
The cost of living crisis has caused many people to look at their energy bills and try to limit the energy they are using in as many ways as possible. Around £2 million of energy a day is wasted simply through people overfilling their kettles. This leads to kettles being the most energy-deficient small domestic appliance in the kitchen. Therefore, 'Slot' was created to combat this issue, as well as adapt the kettle to be more insulative, further reducing heat loss.
Slot is an innovative kettle which a wall partition can be inserted into to reduce the size of the container. This not only reminds the user to think about how much water they are putting in, but also limits this based on standardised mug sizes. Furthermore, the adjustment of boiling container size also speeds up the boiling process as there is no excess space for heat to be lost. The unique form has been intentionally designed to further improve energy efficiency through an improved surface area to volume ratio.
