BA Furniture & Product Design
Inclusive design fundamentally drives me as a designer. Throughout my university experience, I have always aimed to approach projects from an inclusive point of view. I also have a passion for traditional design and love learning and using centuries-old technics to create modern and aesthetic pieces of furniture.
Occlude
Occlude is an inclusive design made to improve a person's concentration and privacy level within an office environment. Its primary function is to allow individuals with hearing disabilities to focus and hone in on what is happening in front of them e.g. video conferencing and online meetings. This mobile product can be wheeled around the office to anyone who is in need of that little bit of extra privacy. Once positioned around the office chair the user can enclose the arms to create a 'do not disturb message or open them to invite colleagues for conversation.
Lined with cotton wool insulation and upholstered using ?Nexus? acoustic fabric, provided by Camira Fabrics it offers the best noise reduction possible.
Turned
The frame of the table is made using steel tubing finished with a satin powder coating. To create the abstract wooden joints (FSC certified), this design uses the centuries old traditional wood working method known as wood turning. This is paired with sophisticated curved glass to bring a contemporary mood to any living environment. The use of clear glass provides an honest design, leaving nothing uncovered. Its separational design allows an easy route to recycling at the products end of life, with many of the components made using recycled materials, giving them the ability to be used again. This timeless design is available in three powder coated satin coloured finishes; white, grey and a forest green and red. Timber connector joints are available in; natural ash, oak or stained, all finished naturally. The connector joints come in four designs which can be mixed and matched to create multiple combinations.
