The Ajpop Collection

The AJPOP Collection is a furniture and lighting range that reinterprets Guatemalan textile symbolism through modern design. Featuring a selection of lamps and a table, it offers a way to celebrate cultural heritage using raffia paper cord - creating meaningful pieces that honour tradition while making it accessible and relevant in contemporary interiors.

This project is deeply personal, as it sheds light on my own culture - not only by celebrating the artistry of indigenous Mayan craftspeople, but also by acknowledging a significant event in Guatemala's history: the civil war that began in 1960, which deeply affected indigenous communities. AJPOP aims to bring awareness to the Mayan people who work tirelessly to preserve their heritage, often without recognition. Through abstracted motifs and storytelling design, the collection pays tribute to a rich cultural legacy that risks fading away, encouraging others to see, appreciate, and protect what makes Guatemala so uniquely beautiful.
