BA (Hons) Furniture and Product Design

Lydia Huntington

I love design that challenges social norms and seeks to break convention. In my own practice I aim to create pieces that are functional and timeless yet evoke joy and excitement in the user. I believe designs should not only be functional, they should be sensual and visually enjoyable.

Amuse Chair

The Amuse Chair is a maximal, bespoke rocking chair for the high-end hospitality industry, which has the intention of being fun, entertaining and 'instagrammable'. The rock provides a small thrill to keep customers entertained and enhance the overall sense of escapism that we long to experience in hospitality. With the increased use of social media, hospitality is now more competitive than ever. In the picture-perfect world of Instagram, everything becomes about aesthetics, wow factor and experience when it comes to hospitality and leisure. The Amuse Chair embraces this culture change and aims to enhance overall experience.

The Comfort Zone

Inspired by Japanese design, The Comfort Zone is a room-in-a-room workspace solution, designed to keep work and home lives separate, and enhance user experience when holding video conferencing calls. The product combines tranquil and calming colour theory with acoustic materials to create a comfortable and motivating workspace. The sleek Japanese exterior has the basic dimensions of a small IKEA wardrobe or shelving unit, making it ideal for small space living. The user simply pulls the handles to open up the space, inside there is a rollout acoustic screen and a fold down desk to fulfill all remote and agile working needs.
