Alby Stokes
I am a hands-on designer with a love of problem solving, working around issues, and finding the best solution to a problem is the challenge I look for in projects. Pushing the brief and thinking outside of the box are always my aims when tackling a new project.
Ex-Site EcoBags: Weekend luggage made from recycled building waste.

In my weekend luggage project, I am transforming discarded tonne sacks from construction sites into practical yet stylish bags, all while honing my sewing skills and delving into the art of bag making. Every aspect of the process, from sourcing the materials to stitching them together, is a journey of discovery and creativity. The rough texture and sturdy nature of the sacks make them ideal for crafting durable luggage that can withstand the damage often caused by travel. As I meticulously sew each bag, I have immersed myself in the intricacies of bag construction, learning new techniques and experimenting with designs. Not only am I repurposing materials that would otherwise go to waste, but I am also crafting one-of-a-kind pieces with a unique backstory. Through this project, I am not just making luggage; I am making a statement about sustainability and the potential for creativity in upcycling materials.
Terracotta Food Storage

The Terracotta Food Storage system is simple by design, taking cues from age-old techniques to harness the inherent cooling abilities of terracotta.By leveragingthese properties, iteffectively prolongs the shelf life of fresh produce, addressing the pressing global issue of food wastage. Its innovative design encourages users to prioritise the consumption of perishable items, preventing them from deteriorating in the depths of the refrigerator drawer. This approachnot only reduces waste but alsoensures that foodis enjoyedat its peak freshness.
The system caters to a wide range of perishable goods, providing an optimal environment similar to the traditional "cool, dark place" required for their preservation. With its user-friendly features, such as the ability to maintain a consistently cool temperature by simply running the main container under cold water for a minute, it offers convenience without electricity.
