Grace Dishington
As a sustainability-driven designer, I thrive in exploring eco-conscious solutions. In my final year, I was able to delve into innovative ways to merge sustainability with design. I have a appreciation for challenging myself with new skills and styles of design, but my passion lies with making and CAD.
Hestia - The Terra Stool
Designing for the future of housing, the brand Hestia focuses on crafting furniture for the Tiny House Movement. The Self-Directed Project resulted in a seating option called the 'Terra Stool' which focuses on themes of multifunctionality and adaptability within sustainable design.
It successfully blends these themes and offers a subtle storage option in the guise of seating for a compact living situation. As by providing the stool with an optional lid accessory further extends the multifunctional aspect of the design to maximise possible use of the product within the home. Moreover, one of the most adaptable aspects of the design is the height adjustable feature which allows for consumer personalisation and consideration.
In line with the ethos of the Tiny House Movement, the materials chosen, Cork and Ramie Fabric, illustrate 'Hestia's' commitment to sustainability and echo the purpose-driven nature of the 'Terra Stool.'
Lucerna
Lucerna is a novel wireless transportable light with a lantern-like shape that evokes historical influences whilst also adding
a modern touch.
This Light’s intricate and elegant Jesmonite finish base, along with its honeycomb re-purposed glassware, offers a fresh
take on pattern. It is available in a variety of finishes so that it can be tailored to the target user’s particular aesthetic.
This project aimed to prioritise sustainability in all aspects. Its re-purposed glassware allows for the refraction of patterned
shadows on your walls, while its faux leather handle is responsibly sourced.
