BA Furniture & Product Design

Louis Ellis

Throughout my academic journey, I've cultivated a passion for simplicity and developed a keen fascination with form and the use of obscure manufacturing techniques. My approach to design frequently veers towards an artistic path, resulting in the creation of distinctive pieces that aim to provide a fresh perspective on life.

SereniSound

In today's fast-paced world, people often neglect to allocate time for genuine relaxation. Even traditionally relaxing activities have transformed into mere background noise while multitasking, rather than opportunities for immersive engagement.

Amidst the constant distractions of modern life, the value of mindful relaxation is increasingly overlooked. SereniSound aims to reintroduce the concept of intentional leisure by encouraging users to actively participate in the act of listening. By fostering a deeper connection with the music and embracing the richness of the auditory journey, individuals can reclaim moments of tranquillity in their daily routines.

Positioned as a ritualistic method to enhance focus on music, SereniSound utilises the ubiquity of portable speakers to create a low-tech solution and underscore the significance of being fully present and allowing oneself to be enveloped by the auditory experience.

Martellata

Martellata is a celebration of traditional techniques and handcrafting. The English Wheel for the simple form and then traditional hammering techniques used in a less conventional way to distort the lengthy bowl-making process. An interesting experiment to portray how sometimes hard work needs to be torn down for a better idea to rise. The Design puts risk-taking at the forefront and hopefully acts as a reminder that sometimes it's worth not playing it safe. The product is made of aluminium, an infinitely recyclable material, so once it has run its course it can be repurposed for a new generation.
