The Horizon lamp aims to introduce the concept of hyperlocal sourcing into modern products. The concept revolves around a single design that can be adapted for specific regions worldwide, by utilising locally sourced materials. Introducing the first two versions of the lamp; Somerset Horizon, crafted for the English market, features a lampshade woven from locally grown willow, paying homage to Somerset's weaving and basketry tradition - and Java Horizon, tailored for the Indonesian market, showcases woven bamboo sourced from the island of Java. Both designs pay homage to traditional craftsmanship whilst promoting environmental sustainability through localised production. The name "Horizon" symbolises the convergence of modernity and tradition within the lampshade - a metaphorical depiction of the meeting point between sun and sky. Users are invited to be integral participants of this action, by mending together two components of the lampshade thus harmonising the modern and traditional - hoping to create newfound appreciation towards the beauty of crafts and natural materials, whilst blending seamlessly to a contemporary home.
