Millie Bestwick

My design focus revolves around the connection we have to objects, which allows me to project an element of humanity in my work. My curiosity and fondness for acquiring knowledge makes me question norms and pushes me to develop my design understanding and creative skills further with each project I take on. I often seek deeper value and reasoning to connect attentively with a brief.

Praga is a storage unit which provokes the consumer to establish a hierarchy within their shoe collection. The various levels allow the user to display shoes depending on their level of regarded importance. Made from oak veneered plywood and painted ash, the form takes inspiration from the prominence of arches and curved plywood in the annual design trends for 2020-2021. The product lives within the bedroom or hallway space of someone who takes great pleasure in choosing their daily attire and has pride in the shoes they possess.

Folk Table

The Folk Table is inspired by Shaker philosophy as it aims to create sentimentality through manufacture and practicality. The FOLK table exists in its main function as a side table in the living room. The extension of an inner table provides a multi-levelled surface for casual dining and sharing food and drink amongst relatives or friends. The removeable table-top serves as a tray and lifts to reveal storage for small household items and serving receptacles. The extended table also has space within for larger assorted possessions. Where a coffee table dominates, FOLK retains a subdued presence. Where nesting tables are cluttered and precision dependent, FOLK feels harmonious and purposeful.
