My approach to design is inspired by my core values of inclusivity, environmental impacts and sustainability, empathy with the user, and organic and natural forms.
My design journey is heavily shaped by communication with the user and by empathising with how the individual will use the product. I consider environmental impacts throughout the entire product life cycle, and when model-making I like to be creative and explore beyond traditional forms. My designs therefore often appear playful and unique, and are heavily influenced by natural, biomorphic shapes.
The Funky Tray
The Funky Tray is a customisable modular display set, designed for Half the Story for the display of their biscuits. Working in tandem with the client, I helped to re-frame their initial brief in order to more closely achieve their desired outcomes. In response to the client’s requirements, the user can choose how they want to set up the display: the individual trays can detach, using a simple magnetic locking system; relevant marketing information can be displayed via slotting discs and brand cards; and all parts can be packed away for ease of transportation. The stand takes less than five minutes to build and pack away, making it perfect for display shows and exhibitions where the sales people are pushed for time. The optional ambient lighting and large range of customisation and choice makes the The Funky Tray suitable for a wide variety of occasions.
