My passion for design and in particular woodwork started from a young age through me and my father spending hours at a time making wooden swords, shields and axes to play with, the memories I have of us two in the shed making them are some of the fondest memories I have. It was during school in Product Design lessons where I first began to realise that woodwork was something I enjoyed and could see myself potentially making a career out of as I really enjoyed sketching as well as physically working with wood and testing the limits of what I could make with them. Fast forward a few years at 19 years old I was employed as a joiner at a company called Eastburn Country Furniture who specialise in the design and manufacture of bespoke shaker cabinetry. Initially this was a big challenge for me as I had no other previous employment and the learning curve was considerable but through dedication and perseverance I found my feet and love for woodwork. I really enjoy the precision and attention to detail when it comes to joinery as I find getting the exact right measurements and details incredibly satisfying which is also what motivates me to work to the best of my ability at all times. My favourite design movement and inspiration for my work is definitely Minimalism as I feel that this design style allows the joinery itself to be a main design feature and showcases the design and manufacture process the best if done correctly. My goal within the design industry is to done day have my one bespoke furniture company like the one I currently work at as I feel this is one of the most honest ways to work as it allows you to make exactly what the customer wants and no two jobs will ever be the same.

The Tessellation Stools are designed with to show off the beauty of woods that aren't considered for higher end joinery. Usual high end pieces of furniture and joinery are made from woods specifically chosen to have little impurities within their grain however the tessellation stools, made from No 1 Common Grade Oak and Ash, are designed to put these impurities at the centre of the design. This in order to promote the use of these less considered qualities of wood and reduce the waste output of the joinery industry through the sustainable use of more grades of wood. The seating arrangements of these stools are designed to look like one continuous board in order to best capture the beauty of these woods.
