Designing products and creating art has always been a passion of mine. My experience with nature conservation has fostered a deep rooted responsibility for the planet and all our fellow animals. I am dedicated to learning about all kinds of sustainable materials and practices, from mycelium, seaweed and other biomaterials to circularity, material science and renewable energy. As well as this, I relish the opportunity for human-centred design and problem solving.

My long-term aim is to help the product design industry continue on its journey to becoming truly sustainable (not green-washing) in a constructive and innovative way. Hopefully a circular economy will foster stronger communities which are better connected with each other and nature. There is no planet B. Thank you for reading.

Universal Material Library

A bespoke material library system for ADBE, which includes a material library, material sample display and a material database. The future-proofed system has been designed to be feasible for the university to implement, as well as improve collaboration between students and staff. The database is outsourced to Material Council, and will house hundreds of industry standard material samples and a large amount of standardised information. It will give teaching staff more tools for helping students from all design disciplines, to choose suitable, sustainable and innovative materials for their projects, in a seamless and engaging way. It will build knowledge and appreciation for the lifecycle of materials, which will serve them, and the planet well once they are in industry.

The Liberty Lamp

The Liberty Lamp is a bedside light designed to help people who wake up a lot at night and need to find their way without causing stress or disrupting their circadian rhythm. Various features have been purposely designed to be usable for people with conditions such as Arthritis and Parkinson’s Disease. Touching the brass base will turn the light on and then the user can detach the magnetic shade by gripping the cork handle. This makes it easy to turn the light on and hold the light with common symptoms such as tremor and bad vision. Materials include sustainably sourced European Ash, compression moulded Cork made in Manchester and bio-based PLA from Gantri. Combined with robust construction and ease of disassembly means it is durable, long-lasting and recyclable.
